I passed my oregon state boards for massage Therapy and am planning on moving to the SanFran area. I think I'll be living around Berkley East Bay part. I need to find a good insurance that covers me wherever I go. I've looked into several but the one that pops out so far is a site called handsonhealing.com. They charge $160.00 a year and it covers anywhere you work. Has anyone heard of this one?
To work in CA do I need to just take a CA law test and a buisness license? I already have close to 1000 hours already due to my spa program I took along with my massage classes.
Any help would be most appreciated thanks!
Namaste!

Re: Looking for an insurance that's reasonable priced and mobile any suggestions?
Thu, April 26, 2007 - 9:14 AMI have ABMP and it was about $180 a year I think and there ALOT of benefits to being a member, like free webhosting and such. -

Thu, April 26, 2007 - 9:23 AMYeah, I'd agree go with ABMP or AMTA you'll get coverage and more. I went with AMTA just because they offered cheap insurance on dental etc as well as the liability ins. which comes with the fee.
Didn't know about the webhosting, cool beans!

Re: Looking for an insurance that's reasonable priced and mobile any suggestions?
Thu, April 26, 2007 - 10:28 AMI also use ABMP and have been very happy with them. As for working in the state of California, the state doesn't actually license massage/bodywork professionals (yet) - it only certifies them. Generally, most municipalities have their own requirements for practicing within city limits so if you're going to practice in multiple locales and want to be legit in the eyes of the law, you'll need to meet each one's requirements seperately. -

Re: Looking for an insurance that's reasonable priced and mobile any suggestions?
Thu, April 26, 2007 - 10:35 AMsorry, but further clarification.
the state of ca does not certify massage therapists. the school that the therapist graduates from certifies the therapist. ca currently does not license or certify massage therapists in any form. local governmental branches, cities and/or counties, is where one would get there (business) license. -

Individual schools actually issue the certs based on the fact that they are approved by the State to do so. I stand corrected. -

Fri, April 27, 2007 - 12:45 PMFabulous!
Thank you!
I am currently considering AMTA. I did a search on google by one word massage. My results were AMTA from the first page fifth down. I further looked at what it covered and was surprised at all it offered. I think I'll a little more and choose AMTA. However if there is any further advise I would love to hear it.Thanks:)

Re: Looking for an insurance that's reasonable priced and mobile any suggestions?
Mon, May 14, 2007 - 10:27 AMI like ABMP because they offer coverage for a wider variety of modalities. Very mobile. In addition to webhosting, they have cool marketing and reading materials free with membership.
Also, even though CA doesn't license MTs as some other states do, getting some kind of formal recognition of the extent of your training might help differentiate you from massage technicians, who've had much less but can still practice there.
