Re: Off-topic posts
Wed, July 2, 2008 - 1:42 PMAs it becomes frustrating to continually see new posts have been made and come to this tribe only to find the posts are not related to MT or labeled as "OT".
Thanks again :) -

Re: Off-topic posts
Wed, July 2, 2008 - 5:30 PMThis is a group for Massage and Bodywork. I personally think anything related to massage, bodywork of all sorts, or nutrition falls under that category as they all play a key role in overall health. -

Re: Off-topic posts
Wed, July 2, 2008 - 9:51 PMOne thing is for sure: people tend to ask their massage therapist questions about all things "alternative" medicine. It helps to have a wide base of knowledge and to have a good referral network.
I think in this day and age we can all learn to filter information and glean out the little nuggets that interest us. This tribe does have a moderator. Recent posts about immunizations and homebirth are obvious not related to bodywork, but still of interest to me. Besides, who is to judge what is on topic, off topic or somewhat on topic etc...
I have sought some advice on this tribe about massage but it seems like something best done in person with a mentor or fellow colleague if i'm looking for specific skills or techniques.
So what i'm saying is, the off topic does not bother me and people should feel free to post anything that is relevant to their life, as long as it's respectful and they check snopes first! -

Re: Off-topic posts
Thu, July 3, 2008 - 4:25 AMI don't think she's saying anyone shouldn't post any topics. It looked like more a request for non-massage/bodywork specific topics to have a OT in the topic title. This would be a great opportunity for the mod to chime in and state any option on the topic...... -

Re: Off-topic posts
Thu, July 3, 2008 - 7:33 AMPersonally I just feel if a topic doesn't interest you then don't click on it. I mean that in the kindest and most gentlest way, yet still being honest. This is my favorite group and I've gotten lots out of our conversations that tend to trail a bit, yet still somewhat sticking to the group material. I think putting OT at the top of a heading isn't really necessary...more confusing. I feel the title should at least state the discussion topic. -

Re: Off-topic posts
Thu, July 3, 2008 - 7:43 AMP.S. Immunizations are extremely connected to bodywork. In some cases knowing your clients medical history is extremely important to understand how a disease may have manifested. It also is good to know when moving energy around or before a massage. It is our responsibility to explain to people how you may have a response from toxins, so to drink water to help flush them out after. Anything not natural to the body will have an affect and could make you sick during the cleansing proccess. Oh and you better believe when mommies come to me they are well educated on options regarding alternative treatments vs. conventional. Yes it is a matter of choice what they decide in the end. It is all part of the picture....holistic. -

Re: Off-topic posts
Thu, July 3, 2008 - 7:51 PMJoy,
Perfect example: you just took a thread I started on one topic (well, a simple and polite request actually) and re-focused it on yourself and another thread *you* started. In the middle of a thread on something completely different. You dig? I did not make this one request toward anyone or anything specific. I was trying to get across that it becomes totally confusing for people with simple minds like myself to wade thru this stuff on a now-daily basis. I know your opinion, I cannot avoid it. I mean that in the kindest and gentlest way. I'm sure you can handle putting "OT" in the subject line when you decide to do this next time so threads can be somewhat more easy to follow for other readers. Or start a new thread and voice all your ideas there. Start ten threads, start splinter tribes, go bananas just please try and be a bit more mindful of where the cows are wandering. Thank you.

Re: Off-topic posts
Thu, July 3, 2008 - 7:34 PMYes Amanda, that is exactly what I am saying. It is a courtesy found in almost every other tribe and an accepted social norm on the internet.
It keeps threads focused and shows respect for the poster and the readers.
